108 ambulance staff back at work today

BANGALORE: The two-week agitation by Arogya Kavacha (108 ambulance service) employees was called off on Thursday and the staff will return to duty on Friday.

On Thursday, GVK-EMRI company, representatives of the employees' association and the state government filed a joint memo in the high court that they'd work together to resume the service. Employees living far from their workplaces have been given time till Saturday to join duty.
In the memo filed before a division bench headed by Justice KL Manjunath, GVK-EMRI agreed to let all those on its rolls as on July 26 (when the strike started) to stay in service. This includes 194 employees dismissed from service recently.
However, there was a rider: the points in the memo are subject to the outcome of the August 14 meeting called by the health minister with employees' representatives and GVK.
"We're concerned about rural people and family members of those employees," the bench observed while disposing of the PIL filed by Dr Kodur Vekatesh, Founder, Arise India Foundation.
The petitioner claimed the strike has severely affected rural areas and sought for a direction to the state government, health & family welfare department and GVK-EMRI for immediate restoration of ambulance service. Thanks the times of india.
