'108' staff call off strike, to resume work today





The Arogya Kavacha employees will report for duty on Friday following a direction from the High Court to resume work.

“We have decided to call off the agitation following talks with the Health minister to look into our problems and also in the wake of the directions from the High Court,” said, R Sridhar, president of the Arogya Kavacha Workers’ Association.


The Association representatives, GVK-EMRI and the Health minister are scheduled to meet on August 14 when a committee is expected to be formed to look into the grievances of the ‘ 108’ staff. he emergency medical staff who had stayed away from work since July 26, in their efforts to seek better pay and job security among other demands.

Meanwhile, during the hearing of a petition, the Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices K L Manjunath and Ravi Malimath directed the striking staff to resume work from Friday. The Bench said that 194 employees who were sacked, should also report for duty.

The Court directed the State government to convene a meeting of the aggrieved employees and GVK-EMRI.

The meeting chaired by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare should be held on August 14 onwards. Until then all the employees on roll including those 194 persons terminated by EMRI should resume their work, the Bench observed.Thanks deccan herald newspaper.
